Care Quality Commission: Registration

Volume 486: debated on Tuesday 20 January 2009

To ask the Secretary of State for Health what plans are in place to ensure all health and social care providers meet the requirement of registration with the Care Quality Commission. (248559)

From April 2010, all providers of regulated activities, whether from the health care or adult social care sectors, will need to register with the Care Quality Commission. In order to register and remain registered, they will be required to meet the registration requirements. Under the Health and Social Care Act 2008, the Care Quality Commission will have a range of independent enforcement actions that it can take to bring providers who do not meet the registration requirements into compliance.

The Department consulted on which activities should fall within the scope of registration and on the registration requirements during the summer of 2008, and will publish its response to that consultation in due course. The Commission will subsequently develop and consult on its own compliance criteria that it will use to assess adherence to the registration requirements.
