To ask the Secretary of State for Children, Schools and Families what estimate he has made of the average cost of obtaining a care order. (244555)

[holding answer 16 December 2008]: Loughborough university has conducted research into the costs of providing children's services. The costs calculated for children's services of obtaining a court order at 2006/07 prices were £2,765.

The fees (in current prices) charged by the courts for obtaining a care order are shown as follows in relation to three stages:
