Genetically Modified Organisms: Animal Feed

To ask the Secretary of State for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs pursuant to the answer of 17 December 2008, Official Report, column 804W, on genetically-modified organisms, what information he has received concerning animal deaths in connection with the consumption of the foliage of genetically-modified Bt cotton plants (a) in the UK and (b) elsewhere; and if he will make a statement. DEFRA officials have read a number of published articles about the claim that animal deaths in India have arisen from the consumption of GM cotton plants, as part of its general monitoring of GM crop-related issues.
