Forced Marriages

22. To ask the Secretary of State for Justice what assessment he has made of the effectiveness of the Forced Marriage (Civil Protection) Act 2007 in enabling the courts to prevent forced marriages. (253544)

As the Forced Marriage (Civil Protection) Act 2007 was only implemented on 25 November 2008, it is too early to evaluate trends. 10 orders have been made since the introduction of the Act including one for the victim returned from Bangladesh. We are continuing to monitor the number of forced marriage protection orders made by the courts. We have asked the courts dealing with the Act to provide statistics on the number of orders they make.
