To ask the Secretary of State for Transport what his most recent assessment is of the performance of train operating companies against their targets; and if will make a statement. (253186)

The public performance measure of rail punctuality has risen to 90.8 per cent. in January 2009, up 1.6 per cent. in only a year. Performance is now at its best since this measure was introduced in 2000-01.

Train operators' franchise agreements contain minimum performance standards, and actual results compared with these are monitored on a regular basis.
