To ask the Chancellor of the Exchequer how much HM Revenue and Customs spent on consultants in (a) total, (b) England, (c) Wales, (d) Scotland and (e) Northern Ireland in each of the last three years. (255606)

During the years 2005-06, 2006-07 and 2007-08, HMRC spent a total of £254,470,000 on consultancy services, the split for each of the last three years is as follows:
