UN World Conference against Racism

Volume 487: debated on Wednesday 11 February 2009

To ask the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs what policy his Department has adopted on the latest draft resolution for the UN Durban 2 anti-racism conference; if he will withdraw the UK from the conference; and if he will make a statement. (254672)

The Government remain deeply concerned about the draft outcome document. We have made this clear in our statements at various meetings in the Durban review process.

The United Kingdom delegation was active in the recent negotiations on the draft outcome document for the Durban Review Conference. The negotiations were not concluded at the recent inter-sessional working group, held in Geneva from 19-23 January 2009.

We are assessing progress, taking into account the recently issued draft document issued on 28 January 2009, and will continue to review it against the objectives we have set for the Conference.
