Volume 488: debated on Monday 23 February 2009

To ask the Secretary of State for Work and Pensions what his most recent estimate is of the number of inaccurate records held on his Department's customer information system. (256069)

The DWP customer information system (CIS) holds over 90 million records, of which around 35 million relate to people receiving benefits who have an obligation to report changes to their personal information. There is no such obligation for those people who are not receiving benefits and for that reason it is not possible to provide an estimate of the number of records which may contain details which are not up to date.

The Department has put in place procedures to ensure that queries about the accuracy of personal information held on the customer information system are dealt with as soon as they are identified.
