To ask the Secretary of State for Health pursuant to the answer of 9 February 2009, Official Report, columns 1759-60W, on hospitals: admissions, what the five most common reasons for emergency admission to hospital for (a) children and (b) adults were in each year since 1997. (257408)

The following tables show the five primary diagnosis descriptions having the highest number of emergency hospital admissions recorded for each year 1997-98 until 2006-07, for adults (17+) and children (0-16).
