Health and Social Care: Elderly

Volume 488: debated on Wednesday 25 February 2009

To ask the Secretary of State for Health for what reasons real terms social care expenditure on older people has fallen, as reported in his Department’s report Personal Social Services Expenditure and Unit Costs England, 2007-08. (258174)

The data published by the NHS Information Centre on adult personal social services expenditure and unit costs, England, 2007-08, set out expenditure as reported by councils on personal social services and does not record the reasons for changes in expenditure. A copy of the publication has been placed in the Library. Expenditure on personal social services is a matter for each individual council and local discretion, through engagement with their democratically accountable members and the public, in order to deliver services that meet local needs and pressures.
