To ask the Secretary of State for Justice what information he has on the number of criminal cases defended by litigants-in-person. (258015)

The criminal justice system does not collect information on the number of unrepresented defendants appearing before the magistrates court, Court of Appeal and House of Lords. The number of unrepresented defendants recorded as appearing before the Crown court in 2007-08 is set out in the following table.
