Sickle Cell Diseases

Volume 488: debated on Wednesday 25 February 2009

To ask the Secretary of State for Health what steps he plans to take to ensure the implementation of the Standards for the Clinical Care of Adults with Sickle Cell Disease in the UK endorsed by his Department. (256911)

The Department has recently commissioned an informal review of the current clinical service provision for Haemoglobin disorders. It is due to report in spring 2009. The standards documents produced by the Sickle Cell Society and the UK Thalassaemia Society have been used as a basis for local discussion for the service review.

This review will inform our considerations about how best to support the national health service in further improving the quality of clinical services for Haemoglobin disorders.
