Departmental Data protection

Volume 488: debated on Monday 2 March 2009

To ask the Secretary of State for Children, Schools and Families whether his Department uses WPA2 encryption protocol on all its wireless networks. (259784)

I can confirm that the Department uses the WPA2 protocol to protect its corporate wireless network, which has been fully accredited by CESG, the National Technical Authority for Information Assurance.

The Department also provides a completely discrete wireless network for visitors to the Department to access the internet. This has no connection to the DCSF corporate network and does not utilise WPA2.
