Volume 488: debated on Monday 2 March 2009

To ask the Chancellor of the Exchequer what recent discussions he has had with the Governor of the Bank of England on measures to maintain the target level of inflation. (260047)

The Governor of the Bank of England and the Chancellor discuss economic and financial developments on a regular basis.

Monetary policy decisions are made by the Monetary Policy Committee (MPC) of the Bank of England. The MPC has full operational independence from the Government in deciding how to meet the Government’s inflation target of 2 per cent. on a consumer price index basis.
