To ask the Secretary of State for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs how many members of staff at each grade in his Department identify themselves as Welsh speakers. (257792)

[holding answer 23 February 2009]: DEFRA does not monitor the number of staff at each grade in the Department who identify themselves as Welsh speakers. DEFRA does however provide a Welsh language service for our customers through our customer call centres and through our telephone helplines.
