Apprentices

To ask the Secretary of State for Innovation, Universities and Skills how many and what percentage of apprentices completed their apprenticeships in the latest period for which figures are available. (265346)

The number of people completing an apprenticeship in England in 2007/08 was 112,600, the latest year for which fully audited figures are available. This is an increase from 39,000 in 2001/02.

Completion rates are also at a record high, with 64 per cent. successfully completing an apprenticeship in England in 2007/08. This is an increase from 37 per cent. in 2004/05.

To ask the Secretary of State for Innovation, Universities and Skills how much his Department spent on (a) producing advertising copy and (b) buying advertising space under the Make Things Happen apprenticeships advertising campaign. (266467)

The Learning and Skills Council has been responsible for promoting apprenticeships since it came into existence in April 2001. The Council’s acting chief executive, Geoffrey Russell, will write to the hon. Member with the information requested and a copy will be placed in the Libraries.
