Inquiries
[Official Report, 26 February 2009, Vol. 488, c. 905W.]
Letter of correction from Shaun Woodward:
An inconsistency has been identified in relation to the answer given to the hon. Member for North Shropshire (Mr. Paterson) on 26 February 2009. The figure provided by the Billy Wright Inquiry was calculated on a different basis to the figures provided by the Robert Hamill Inquiry and the Rosemary Nelson Inquiry. To avoid any confusion, it would have been helpful to make clear in the answer the basis on which the figures were calculated.
The figures provided should have been explained as follows: (257142)
The following amounts have been spent by the Inquiries to the end of January 2009 on lawyers and legal firms:
(a) The Robert Hamill Inquiry—£8.74 million (includes legal costs for participants whose legal representation is funded by the Inquiry);
(b) The Billy Wright Inquiry—£4.87 million (excludes legal costs for participants whose legal representation is funded by the Inquiry; also includes some payments to inquiry legal representatives during February);
(c) The Rosemary Nelson Inquiry—£13.05 million (includes legal costs for participants whose legal representation is funded by the Inquiry).
