To ask the Secretary of State for Children, Schools and Families what steps have been taken by his Department to improve the thermal efficiency of its buildings in the last 12 months. (266751)

The Department for Children, Schools and Families commissioned a report from the Carbon Trust to investigate the thermal efficiency of its buildings. This established that, in our current estate, steps to address thermal efficiency were not economically viable and other energy efficiency investments represented far better value for money to the Treasury. We do however re-visit this recommendation annually to reassess its viability and include thermal efficiency in any major estate projects.
