Aviation: Redundancy

Volume 492: debated on Thursday 14 May 2009

To ask the Secretary of State for Transport (1) whether he has had recent discussions with (a) the Secretary of State for Work and Pensions and (b) representatives of the British Airline Pilots Association on the development of a customised redundancy package for airline pilots; and if he will make a statement; (274228)

(2) what recent assessment he has made of the effects of the operation of age discrimination legislation on airline employers' selection of pilots for redundancy; and if he will make a statement.

The pilots' trade union BALPA has written to me about the impact of the current economic situation on pilots, and I have offered to meet them.
