[holding answer 11 May 2009]: Anabolic steroids are controlled as Class C drugs under the Misuse of Drugs Act 1971. The Government have accepted the Advisory Council on the Misuse of Drugs recommendation to control a further 24 anabolic steroids and two non-steroidal agents (growth promoters) as Class C drugs and Schedule 4 Part 2 of the Misuse of Drugs Regulations 2001 so as not to preclude legitimate use on prescription. A formal, public consultation on this proposal will be published shortly.
