The United Nations has estimated that, as of 25 May 2009, approximately 2.38 million people have been registered as internally displaced persons (IDPs) from the conflict affected areas of North West Frontier Province and the Federally Administered Tribal Areas. Of these, approximately 275,000 are being accommodated in 26 IDP camps in Charsadda, Lower Dir, Malakand, Mardan, Nowshera, Peshawar and Swabi. The rest are staying with friends or family or are renting private accommodation across Pakistan.
