Blood: Contamination

To ask the Secretary of State for Health how many people have (a) died and (b) contracted sepsis as a result of receiving bacterially contaminated transfused blood products in the last five years. (277379)

Data on adverse reactions from blood products are collected by the Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency (MHRA), as for any medicinal product. MHRA has received no reports of infection arising from bacterial contamination of transfused blood products during the past five years.
