Breast Feeding

Volume 494: debated on Thursday 25 June 2009

To ask the Minister for Women and Equality if she will bring forward proposals to provide a legal right for women to breastfeed in public places. (280408)

The Equality Bill which is currently before Parliament makes it clear that it is unlawful discrimination to ask a mother to leave places such as cafes if she is breastfeeding her baby.

At present we have no plans to bring forward proposals to provide a legal right for women to breastfeed in public places.
