Nuclear Weapons

Volume 494: debated on Thursday 25 June 2009

To ask the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs under what international security conditions the Government would participate in the multilateral nuclear disarmament process. (281899)

My right hon. Friends the Prime Minister and Foreign Secretary have set out the UK's vision for a world free from nuclear weapons, and the Government are at the forefront of efforts to create the conditions to bring this about. The Foreign Secretary set out these conditions in detail in the paper “Lifting the Nuclear Shadow” published in February 2009. As soon as it becomes useful for our arsenal to be included in a broader negotiation, we stand ready to participate and act.
