Prisoners

To ask the Secretary of State for Justice how many (a) male and (b) female prisoners aged (i) between 60 and 65 years, (ii) between 66 and 70 years, (iii) between 71 and 75 years, (iv) between 76 and 80 years and (v) over 80 years there were in April of each year since 1997. (285789)

The following table shows the information requested for prison population in England and Wales as at 30 June in each year from 2002 to 2008. The data to provide figures for earlier years are not available centrally.
