To ask the Secretary of State for the Home Department if he will undertake an evaluation of the effectiveness of the use of control orders in the UK. (291710)

The effectiveness of all current control orders is regularly kept under review to ensure that they, and the obligations they impose, remain necessary and proportionate, and that the control order regime more generally is as effective as possible. I would refer the hon. Member to the written ministerial statement in relation to control orders published on 16 September 2009 which provides an update on the review of the control order regime in the light of the recent House of Lords' judgment in AF and others.
