Crime: Mobile Phones

Volume 497: debated on Tuesday 13 October 2009

To ask the Secretary of State for the Home Department whether his Department has made an assessment of the effects on levels of criminal activity on the availability of unregistered pay-as-you-go mobile telephones. (290454)

The Home Office has not made an assessment of the effects on levels of criminal activity on the availability of unregistered pay-as-you-go mobile telephones.

The National Mobile Phone Crime Unit, which the Home Office part sponsors, recently did a survey of handsets stolen in the Metropolitan police area and discovered that around 35 per cent. were pre-pay.
