Local Government: Assets

To ask the Chancellor of the Exchequer what his estimate is of the net average monetary value of assets purchased by local authorities over the last 20 years. (293674)

From the years 1989-90 to 2008-09, according to the Office for National Statistics, the net value of assets purchased by local authorities was on average £4 billion a year (net of asset sales and depreciation). This figure excludes capital grants.
