Police: Public Appointments

Volume 498: debated on Tuesday 27 October 2009

To ask the Secretary of State for the Home Department whether he has issued any recent guidance to police authorities on the appointment of Chief Constables; what mechanism exists for the announcement of such appointments; and whether any arrangements are made to inform hon. Members. (295263)

A Home Office guidance document on Recruitment and Selection of Chief Police Officers [Home Office Circular 60/2002] was published in 2002 and issued to all police authorities. Police authorities appoint chief constables and hence are responsible for announcing such appointments and informing interested parties as they consider appropriate.
