Passports: Fraud

Volume 498: debated on Thursday 29 October 2009

To ask the Secretary of State for the Home Department how many convictions for offences of fraud in relation to passports there were in (a) the UK, (b) the East of England region, (c) Essex and (d) Castle Point constituency in each of the last 10 years. (296072)

[holding answer 27 October 2009]: The Identity and Passport Service did not separately record details on convictions for offences of fraud prior to the introduction of its Fraud Casework and Management Information system in April 2005. The number of convictions recorded by IPS from then onwards are as follows:

Financial year

Convictions

2005-06

12

2006-07

55

2007-08

9

2008-09

6

It is not possible to obtain any further breakdown by region or specific location. In those cases when IPS receives notification of a conviction from a court, or the police, the information provided states the name of the court only.
