Local Government: Carbon Emissions

Volume 502: debated on Monday 7 December 2009

To ask the Secretary of State for Energy and Climate Change what estimate he has made of the reduction in carbon dioxide emissions attributable to the Carbon Trust's local authority carbon management programme in each year of the programme. (303461)

The Carbon Trust's public sector carbon management programme began in 2003-04 and I am informed by the trust that to date 236 local authorities have participated.

CO2 emission reductions to date for each year of the programme are set out in the following table. The Carbon Trust inform me that they expect that implemented savings from the two most recent years, 2007-08 and 2008-09, will exceed the carbon savings implemented in earlier years but that there is a time lag in actual implementation which has resulted in the lower levels of savings made to date.
