To ask the Secretary of State for Health what recent assessment he has made of the effectiveness of Monitor in assessing clinical performance at NHS hospitals. (303857)

The National Health Service Act 2006 requires Monitor (the statutory name of which is the Independent Regulator of NHS Foundation Trusts) to be accountable to Parliament and to exercise its functions effectively, efficiently and economically.
