Police Community Support Officers: North Yorkshire

Volume 502: debated on Monday 14 December 2009

To ask the Secretary of State for the Home Department what budget he has allocated for pump-priming the provision of community support officers in North Yorkshire in the next 12 months; and if he will make a statement. (305848)

Neighbourhood policing is central to improving public confidence that the police and local council are dealing with the crime and antisocial behaviour issues that matter in their area. Public confidence has increased from 45 per cent. in March 2008 to 50 per cent. in June 2009. Since 2002 we have invested heavily to ensure that there is now a Neighbourhood Policing team in every neighbourhood, including in total more than 13,500 warranted officers and 16,000 police community support officers (PCSOs).

During 2009-2010 we are providing £3.33 million to North Yorkshire Police Authority to help maintain 183 PCSOs. We will increase this provision by 2.7 per cent. to £3.42 million in 2010-11.
