To ask the Secretary of State for Children, Schools and Families how many (a) physics, (b) chemistry, (c) mathematics, (d) English, (e) biology and (f) history teachers who entered the profession in a state school in 2005 were still teaching in state schools in the last year for which figures are available. 1 Teachers in part-time service are under-recorded on the DTR by between 10 and 20 per cent. and therefore these figures may be slightly underestimated.

2 The local authority maintained sector includes teachers in maintained nursery, primary, secondary, special schools and pupil referral units and excludes CTCs and academies.

3 Figures are provisional estimates and are subject to change.
