Carbon Emissions: Smoking

To ask the Secretary of State for Energy and Climate Change what estimate has been made of the effects of cigarette smoking on levels of carbon dioxide emissions. (306343)

The Government have not made a detailed assessment of the effects of cigarette smoking on carbon dioxide emissions. As a plant product, the burning of tobacco is likely to result in zero net carbon dioxide emissions, although there will be other greenhouse gas emissions associated with the production and distribution of cigarettes.
