Rodents

Volume 503: debated on Wednesday 6 January 2010

To ask the Secretary of State for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs what assessment he has made of trends in (a) the rat population and (b) the incidence of household rat infestations. (308637)

A copy of the latest report on rodent presence in domestic properties as revealed by the English House Condition Survey data for 2002-03 and 2003-04 has been placed in the House of Commons Library. The key finding is that the occurrences of rats inside and outside properties in these years are not significantly different from those observed in 2001.

The next report covering the period up to 2006 should be available in 2010, although at present there is no set date for publication.
