To ask the Secretary of State for Defence what recent assessment he has made of the security situation in the Afghanistan-Pakistan border region. (309582)

The threat posed by the Taleban remains serious. On both sides of the border efforts to bring stability and operations to constrict the insurgents’ ability to operate continue.

This approach was set out by the Prime Minister in our April 2009 Policy Document ‘Afghanistan-Pakistan: The Way Forward’.
