Pre-School Education: Finance

To ask the Secretary of State for Children, Schools and Families how much his Department spent on extending the pre-school entitlement to two year-olds in the latest year for which figures are available; and if he will make a statement. (304202)

Funding for the two-year-old offer of free early education and child care is provided to local authorities as a ring-fenced block of the Sure Start, Early Years and Childcare Grant. The latest year for which audited spend is currently available is 2007-08. The spend for 2007-08 was £10,421,842. This was for the 32 local authorities in wave one of the programme.

The allocations for 2008-09, 2009-10 and 2010-11 are shown in the following table.
