Outpatient waiting times for York Health Services Trust 2005 to 2009 Month ending Median (weeks) March 2005 5.4 March 2006 3.9 March 2007 3.5 March 2008 3.1 March 2009 2.5 December 2009 3.6 Notes: 1. Outpatient waiting times are measured from referral by the general practitioner to first outpatient appointment to the consultant. 2. Full waiting list was only collected from 2004 so average waiting first outpatient times on this basis have only been available from then. 3. Median waiting times are calculated from aggregate data, rather than patient level data, and therefore are only estimates of the position on average waits. 4. Historically, since 1997, outpatient waiting times were collected based on numbers seen during the quarter. 5. In addition, data were collected on a ‘still waiting’ basis in the monthly return alongside the inpatient waiting times figures. However, unlike the inpatient figures, the full waiting list on outpatients, was not collected, just the long waiters. Therefore, it was not possible to calculate the average wait on this basis.
