Wind Power

Volume 506: debated on Monday 1 March 2010

To ask the Secretary of State for Energy and Climate Change what the total output of UK’s off-shore wind turbines, expressed as a proportion of their load factor, was in each week in January 2010. (318167)

Total output figures for offshore wind are available only on an annual basis. The most recent data are for 2008, when offshore wind generation was 1,305 GWh. Data for wind generation as a whole, by major power producers, are collected monthly, with the latest data showing December 2009's generation as 572 GWh.

Load factors are defined as the average hourly quantity of electricity supplied during the year, expressed as a percentage of the average output capability at the beginning and end of the year. As such, these are only calculated on an annual basis, with the latest data for 2008 showing a load factor of 34.9 per cent.
