Immigrants: Detainees

To ask the Secretary of State for the Home Department how many children under the age of (a) 10 and (b) five years old were being held in immigration removal centres on the latest date for which figures are available. (319775)

As at 31 December 2009, no children, defined as persons aged 17 or below, were detained in the UK solely under Immigration Act powers. This excludes children detained in Prison Service establishments' mother and baby units.
