To ask the Secretary of State for Defence what discussions his Department has had with its (a) New Zealand and (b) Australian counterparts on joint co-operation in the procurement of (i) the Future Surface Combatant C1 vessels and (ii) the Future Mine Countermeasures, Hydrographic and Patrol Vessels. Ministry of Defence officials have held a number of discussions with their Australian and New Zealand counterparts on a range of maritime issues, including potential ways of working together on areas of common interest in the new generations of Combat warships and Mine Countermeasures, Hydrographic and Patrol vessels. These discussions are at an early stage and it is too soon to say what the outcome will be.
