Mental Health Services: Expenditure

Volume 508: debated on Monday 22 March 2010

To ask the Secretary of State for Health (1) how much the NHS has spent on (a) mental illness, (b) personality disorder, (c) learning disability, (d) brain injury and (e) step-down rehabilitation services provided by partnerships in care in each of the last three years; (323018)

(2) for what reasons the NHS sub-contracts mental health and psychiatric services to Partnerships in Care; and what recent assessment he has made of the effect on NHS expenditure of that practice.

The provision of local health services, and the funding thereof, are decisions that should be made by primary care trusts and their strategic health authorities. Clinicians are best placed to decide on what services their local communities need and how they are provided. Information is not held centrally on local contracts with individual providers of care.
