Travelling People: Grants

To ask the Secretary of State for Communities and Local Government how many Gypsy and Traveller site grants were made in each of the last three years; and what the average amount of such a grant was in each of those years.

Letter of correction from Mr. Shahid Malik:

An error has been identified in the written answer given to the hon. Member for Welwyn Hatfield (Grant Shapps) on 30 November 2009. The figures in the second paragraph were incorrect. The answer given was as follows. (300998)

Grant for refurbishing existing and building new Gypsy and Traveller sites since 2006-07 has been paid through the Gypsy and Traveller Site Grant.

In rounds one and two of year 2006-07 56 grants were paid at a total cost of £14,265,752 making the average grant £254,745. For rounds one and two of year 2007-08 74 grants were paid at a total cost of £13,436,131 making an average of £181,569 per grant and in 2008-09 56 grants were paid at a total cost of £11,965.079 with the average grant being £213,662.

The correct answer should have been:

Grant for refurbishing existing and building new Gypsy and Traveller sites since 2006-07 has been paid through the Gypsy and Traveller Site Grant.

In rounds one and two of year 2006-07 100 grants were paid at a total cost of £20,439,796 making the average grant £204,397.96 For rounds one and two of year 2007-08 95 grants were paid at a total cost of £32,295,321 making an average of £339,950.75 per grant and in 2008-09 44 grants were paid at a total cost of £21,561,277 with the average grant being £490,029.02”.
