The following is an extract from the response to the hon. Member for Luton North (Kelvin Hopkins) during the statement on the BBC by the Secretary of State for Culture, Media and Sport on 15 September 2016.
For the first time, we have made it an 11-year charter in order that it does not coincide with the electoral cycle and there cannot be seen to be political influence on the charter renewal. In addition, we want to make sure that this is the longest charter ever.

An error has been identified in the response I gave to the hon. Member for Luton North (Kelvin Hopkins) during my statement on the BBC.
The correct response should have been:

As I pointed out to the hon. Lady’s colleague the hon. Member for East Dunbartonshire (John Nicolson), BBC Alba is a wholly owned subsidiary of the BBC, whereas S4C is not.
