Warrington Extension Bill

My Lords, I beg to move that the Standing Order be considered in order to its being dispensed with in respect of this Bill. The reason for that is that there was delay in presenting the report of the Attorney-General, and it is usual in those circumstances to permit the suspension of the Standing Order. I beg to move the Motion standing in my name.

Moved, That Standing Order No. 105 be considered in order to its being dispensed with in respect of the said Bill, and that the Bill be now read 2a .—( The Earl of Onslow.)

On Question, Motion agreed to, and Bill read 2a accordingly.

House Of Lords Offices

Order of the Day read for the consideration of the First Report from the Select Committee on House of Lords Offices.

The Committee reported as follows:—

1. Retirement of Doorkeepers.

Captain James Nealon, second Principal Doorkeeper, retired at the age limit as from the 11th December, 1931. The Committee sanctioned the payment of a pension to Captain Nealon, under the Superannuation Act, 1909, amounting to £52 10s. per annum with a supplement of £18 11s. per annum, the latter being subject to quarterly revision. They also sanctioned the payment of an additional allowance of £177 2s. 6d., Winch he was entitled to receive under the Act.
Mr. Lawrence F. Wrightson, a Doorkeeper, retired as from the 12th February, 1932, on the grounds of ill health. The Committee sanctioned the payment of a pension to Mr. Wrightson of £43 15s. 5d. with a supplement of £16 2s. 10d., calculated under the provisions of the Superannuation Act, 1909. They also sanctioned the payment of an additional allowance of £149, which he was entitled to receive under the Act.

2. Gratuity to a Housemaid.

The Committee sanctioned a compassionate gratuity of £23 2s. to Mrs. Annie Clack, a housemaid, for which she was eligible under the Superannuation Act, 1887.

3. Committee on National Expenditure.

The Clerk of the Parliaments laid before the Committee a letter from the Treasury with regard to the Report of the Committee on National Expenditure. The Committee saw no reason to recommend any change in existing procedure.

4. Estimates.

The Estimate for the House of Lords Offices for the year ending 31st March, 1933, was laid before the Committee.

My Lords, I beg to move that this Report be now considered and adopted.
