asked Her Majesty's Government:Why the A.449 between Newport and Usk is being re-kerbed at great expense to the taxpayer and inconvenience to traffic when this road will be superseded as a trunk road by the Usk-Coldra dual carriageway in a few months' time.

The re-kerbing is part of normal maintenance and is necessary because of the deterioration and damage caused by the heavy traffic using the road. The work should be completed in about a month. This road will continue to be an important route for traffic after the opening of the new Usk-Coldra dual carriageway road.House adjourned at seven minutes past five o'clock.
