Whether they intend to make a statutory scheme for the Criminal Injuries Compensation Board.

Proposals for placing the Scheme on a statutory footing, with such modification as may appear desirable, will be prepared in the light of the recommendations of an Inter-Departmental Working Party which has been reviewing the Criminal Injuries Compensation Scheme. The Working Party's report is expected within the next few weeks. It is unlikely that any final decision on the future of the Scheme will be made before the Government have had the opportunity to consider not only the Working Party's report but also the recommendations of the Royal Commission on Civil Liability and Compensation for Personal Injury. I understand that the Royal Commission hopes to complete its work by the end of the year and to report as soon as possible afterwards.House adjourned at seven minutes past eight o'clock.
