Whether the recent BBC programmes "Public Eye" indicated any breach of animal welfare legislation in the transport and sale overseas of Shetland ponies and horses; and what action is being taken.

The Government would take a serious view of any breaches of United Kingdom animal welfare legislation. Although these programmes contained no clear evidence that the animal welfare legislation had been breached, the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food is in contact with the producers of the programmes and will consider any additional relevant information.
