Gibraltar: Fishing Agreement

asked Her Majesty's Government:Whether they will outline the agreement. made in October 1998, between the Spanish Foreign Minister and the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs, regarding fishing within British sovereign waters in the Bay of Gibraltar and ratified by the Prime Minister and the Spanish Prime Minister. On 5 October 1998, my right honourable friend the Foreign Secretary reached an understanding with the Spanish Foreign Minister on the situation that prevailed in British waters around Gibraltar from 1991–97, when fishing took place in moderation and the fisherman respected the authority of the Gibraltar law enforcement agencies. They agreed that we should revert to that situation.
